TRAINING TO BECOME A PIKLER® PEDAGOGUE
I. BASIC LEVEL 3 x 5 days
3 mandatory 5-day (33-hour) basic courses (order of courses depending on offer)
Care in the Piklerian pedagogy
The significance of free motor development
Independent playing activities at age 0-3
after the completion of the above:
II. ADVANCED LEVEL 2 x 5 days
2 mandatory 5-day (33-hour) thematic courses (order of courses depending on offer)
Observation in the Piklerian approach
Accompanying the socialization
(To the advanced level courses participants may also bring their own materials for discussion)
then, upon the completion of the above:
III. ELECTIVE COURSES
2 elective 5-day (33-hour) thematic courses to be chosen from the following offers: 2 x 5 days
Further issues relating to playing activities and their accompanying by the adult
Further issues relating to motor development and its conditions
Further issues relating to care and educational situations
Dialogue with the infant and toddler
Relationship with families
Supporting the caregivers
Atypical development
(To the elective level courses, we expect participants to bring their own materials for discussion)
IV. PRACTICAL VISITS TO OBSERVE 2 x 3 days
(precondition: completion of all courses of the basic level)
- Observation in day-care groups, parent-child-groups, or other early childhood institutions
- Analyzing and discussing the observations under the leadership of a Pikler trainer / lecturer
- Can be completed in Budapest, or any other institution where Piklerian ideas prevail in the pedagogical practice and where a qualified Pikler trainer is available to lead the discussion of the observations. (Participants should consult the Budapest team about availability / options.)
V. PRESENTING OWN PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE I. and II. 2 x 5 days
- Discussion of materials presented by the participants in small groups (8 members)
- Participation is based on invitation.
VI. FINAL THESIS AND DEFENSE
- The written thesis must be related to the participant’s own professional activity, and must present some experience, idea, concept, practice, observation, or study related to the Pikler approach.
- Preparing the final thesis is accompanied by a designated mentor – a Pikler trainer (who supports in picking the topic, preparing the adequate documentation, provides feedback on the first draft, consults with the participant throughout the process and takes part in assessing the thesis together with the Pikler team).
- Keeping in contact in person or online: maximum time allocated to consulting with the mentor is 30 hours.
- Discussing and defending the final thesis orally, in person, in front of a 3-member panel of trainers from the Pikler House, who pass the decision on approving the final thesis and its defense. In the course of the defense the author must also prove their broader awareness of the topic.
Upon the successful defense of the final thesis the candidate is awarded the
PIKLER® PEDAGOGUE title.
